Does Geography Matter? The European Council torn (or divided) by North and South, East and West

Europe is often claimed to be a divided continent. Is geography the main factor behind these divisions and in which sense? How is geography related to other issues? And how does this connect to the work of the European Council?

These questions were discussed by a group of prominent experts in a webinar organized by the University of Cologne and the Swedish Institute of International Affairs.

Speaker:
Wolfgang Wessels, Jean Monnet Chair and Director of the Centre for Turkey and European Union Studies (CETEUS), University of Cologne

Panelists:
Annika Ström Melin, Independent writer, journalist and lecturer, Stockholm
Gianni Bonvicini, Scientific Advisor, Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), Rome
Mats Braun, Metropolitan University, Prague

The webinar was moderated by Gunilla Herolf, Senior Associate Research Fellow at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs.

The webinar is part of the TRACK project – Teaching and Researching the European Council, a Jean Monnet project, which is led by Professor Wessels.
