Myanmar in Crisis: Navigating Humanitarian Aid Challenges
Following the 2021 military coup, humanitarian needs have surged in Myanmar as civil war spread and a severe earthquake hit on March 28, 2025. Relief delivery for 22 million people in need has been limited, however, due to the restrictions and instability of junta rule. This report analyzes the impact of these challenges on aid operations. The military’s attacks and blockade on aid in conflict areas most significantly impede relief delivery for the population in need. The report recommends international actors maintain aid support for Myanmar and provide more humanitarian assistance through local civil society actors as they have the capacity to reach communities in restricted conflict areas.
