UI Briefs provide concise but well‑developed analyses of specific issues, events, or trends. They highlight key insights and often outline policy alternatives or recommendations supported by evidence. Briefs include endnotes. Each publication undergoes an internal approval process. The views expressed are solely those of the authors.

UI Reports present research‑based analyses that contribute to a deeper understanding of international affairs. They bring together theoretical perspectives and empirical material and may include findings from research projects, conference discussions, policy developments, or case studies. Each publication undergoes an internal approval process. The views expressed are solely those of the authors.

UI Commentary offers timely reflections on ongoing international developments such as elections, agreements, or conflicts. They present a clear policy idea or perspective and contribute to the public discussion with sharp and current insights. Each publication undergoes an internal approval process. The views expressed are solely those of the authors.

UI Papers are working papers and similar manuscripts reporting research results. They are written by UI researchers, visiting researchers, or other researchers invited to publish with UI. UI Papers may also include in-depth policy analyses, which are rigorously researched but less ambitious in terms of theory and scientific methodology. Research quality, relevance and readability are the main criteria for publication.
