Jan-Peter Kleinhans is a new visiting research fellow

We welcome Jan-Peter Kleinhans as a new visiting research fellow at the Swedish National China Centre and the Europe Programme at UI.

Jan-Peter will stay at UI until September 17. During the research visit, he will collaborate with Tim Rühlig and other UI experts on Europe-China relations in the field of digital technologies. Topics will include semiconductor research collaboration and cooperation on standardization in wireless technology, with a focus on OpenRAN in particular. The research visit is supported by the China in Europe Research Network (CHERN).

Jan-Peter is a distinguished expert on the geopolitics of digital technology. Since 2020, he is head of “Technology and Geopolitics” at the Berlin-based tech think-tank Stiftung Neue Verantwortung. His recent work has focused on semiconductors as a strategic asset. Jan-Peter has also conducted research on mobile network security, specifically 5G security and the trustworthiness of network equipment vendors.

Jan-Peter is no stranger to Sweden; he studied Communication Science at Uppsala University earlier in his career.
