UI's EGS report on third place in global think tank index

23 January 2015

The European Global Strategy (EGS) policy report has been ranked third (out of 47) in the 2014 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report. In the category of best foreign policy and international affairs institutes UI climbed from 70th to 44th place in 2013, and kept this position in 2014. In the category of best international cooperation partner, UI holds 12th place (out of 75).

The EGS project was initiated by four European foreign ministers and run by four Institutes; The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI), The Elcano Royal Institute, The Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) and The Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI). The joint cooperation initiated research and debate around a common European strategy in external relations.

Elcano, IAI, PISM and UI did this in cooperation with more than 20 partners from Europe and around the world in a process that included a series of workshops and conferences alongside an ongoing online debate. In May 2013 the final report "Towards a European Global Strategy: securing European influence in a changing world", was presented in Brussels and the respective capitals of the four organisers.

The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania conducts research on the role policy institutes play in governments and civil societies around the world, and produces a ranking Index report annually. In total the rankings include 6618 think tanks globally. The ranking is conducted by a panel that includes 1900 experts representing think tanks, media, academia, governments and private businesses around the world.
