UI ranked in top for institutional cooperation

27 January 2014

The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) scores a high 11 out of 80 in this year's ranking of institutional collaboration among think tanks. UI also climbs on the chart of international affairs think tanks globally, to place 44 from 70.

-          I am pleased to see that the international cooperation in the European Global Strategy project, through which UI has established a wide network of think tanks, has had clear impact on the rankings. This type of international cooperation is becoming increasingly important to our work, as research and policy analysis today are conducted in international networks, says Anna Jardfelt, Director of UI.

-          The institute's climb from place 70 to 44 among international affairs institutes is proof of UI's capacity to build strong international networks and the relevance of its work for policy, says Anna Jardfelt.

The figures are the result of University of Pennsylvania's yearly index of the world's leading think tanks. The ranking comprises 6826 think tanks globally operating in a range of sectors. The ranking is made by a panel of over 1900 institutions and experts from media, academia, governments and private and public institutions around the world.

The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (or UI, its Swedish acronym), is Sweden's leading institute for information and research on world events. The focus is on international affairs of particular relevance for Sweden.

UI aims to deepen and enrich discussions of international affairs through advancing the interest and knowledge of international issues. Research, events, media commentary, publications, the UI blog, participation in international networks and the Anna Lindh library all contribute to this aim.
