China’s Global Role in the Covid-19 Crisis

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, countries around the world have imposed strict lockdown measures and economies are paralyzed. Observers debate how quickly economic growth in China, where the outbreak first started, will recover compared to other countries. Can the crisis be an opening for Beijing to advance its international position?

Together with a panel of China specialists from the Stockholm Observatory for Global China, this webinar elaborated on China’s global role in the Covid-19 crisis. It covered implications for EU-China relations and the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as global economic flows and the future of the international order. China’s response to the pandemic was also contrasted with how it handled the SARS outbreak in the early 2000s.
