Who is Arming Asia - And Why Should Sweden Care?

On June 15, The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) arranged a discussion on the changing patterns of arms trade in Asia, and its effects on the region, and on the current political-economic world order.

Arms import to Asia are seeing a steep rise at the same time as the US share of this trade is in decline, despite its policy of “Pivot to Asia”. Perhaps surprisingly, Beijing is not directly driving Asian arms imports.

Who is arming Asia? What does this mean for the region and for U.S. influence in Asia? And how is Sweden – a small country with significant arms exports – affected?
Join us for a discussion between:
Jonathan Caverley,  Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars and a Research Associate in Political Science and Security Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

And:

Björn Fägersten, Head of Programme and Senior Research Fellow at UI's Europe Programme.
