Development Cooperation in a Post-MDG Era: Can Japan effectively continue to contribute to global development?

Stockholm Seminar on Japan The Japanese government adopted a new Charter for Development Cooperation in February 2015, to embark on the post-2015 development era and building on the 60th anniversary of its ODA.

What are key features of this new Charter? What are the continuity and evolution from the past – including the vision and approach? How should (can) Japan effectively contribute to the new era of global development, by making use of its core competence?

Speaker:
Izumi Ohno is Professor, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). She specializes in international development strategy and Japan’s development cooperation policy. Prior to joining GRIPS (in 2002), she worked at JICA, World Bank, and JBIC. She served as a member of the Advisory Panel to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the ODA Charter Review (March – July 2014). Her publication includes: Eastern and Western Ideas for African Growth: Diversity and Complementarity in Development Aid (edited with Kenichi Ohno, Routledge, 2013).
