Mark Rhinard

Research Leader

Mark Rhinard is Research Leader at UI and Senior Research Fellow at the Europe Research Program at UI. His research focuses on European cooperation questions, especially in the areas of external and internal security. His current research projects include the EU as a global actor, the EU's rising role in societal (or 'homeland') security, institutional politics in the EU, and comparative civil security systems in Europe.

Mark Rhinard is also Professor in International Relations at Stockholm University, where he teaches international cooperation and European security. He also serves as Senior Advisor to the European Policy Centre in Brussels. He has held positions at Oxford and Leiden universities and publishes regularly in international, peer-reviewed journals.

His latest books include Nordic Societal Security: Convergence and Divergence (Routledge) and Theorising Internal Security in the European Union (Oxford).
