Barbara Kunz is the head of UI’s Program Department, which encompasses the Arctic Programme, the Asia Programme, the Middle East and North Africa Programme, and the Programme for European and Global Politics.
Barbara’s research focuses on European and transatlantic security, with a particular emphasis on Germany, France, and Nordic security – including the Arctic – as well as nuclear weapons issues and deterrence. Before joining UI, she worked at research institutes in France (IFRI), Germany (IFSH) and Sweden (SIPRI). Barbara has also been a visiting researcher in the US on several occasions.
She obtained her PhD in political science from Stockholm University and her master’s degree from Sciences Po Paris in France.
