The future of European security and defense — challenges and pathways

The future of European security and defense — challenges and pathways

2017 was a volatile year for European security cooperation. According to the High Representative Federica Mogherini, more was done in 10 months than in the previous 10 years. Looking to the future, how will developments within the German-French relationship affect European foreign and security policy? What path might the UK take in European security following Brexit? And how are national security strategies affected by Europe’s evolving security landscape?

The Europe programme organized a seminar with:
Richard G. Whitman, Professor of Politics and International Relations at the University of Kent and Senior Visiting Fellow at Chatham House
Christian Mölling, Research Director at the German Council on Foreign Relations

Björn Fägersten, Head of the Europe Programme at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs, moderated the seminar.
