Expertise and International Security in East Asia
Through an empirical focus on East Asia, this Special Research Programme (SRP) project seeks to make contributions to the study of expert knowledge and international relations.
First, the project advances a new understanding of how expertise on international security differs from that of most other policy fields. International security expertise, most importantly, is to a large extent about the future and hypothetical pasts and presents, that is, the unknowable – issues about which we can never hope to gain certain knowledge. Second, the project investigates how expertise on international security matters for the practice of international relations on the system-level.
