UI is hiring a MENA analyst
The Swedish Institute of International Affairs is now hiring an aspiring analyst to join its Middle East and North Africa Programme.
The Middle East and North Africa Programme at The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) conducts research and analysis on political, economic and societal issues within the Middle East and North Africa. The programme has two focus areas:  the geopolitical dynamics, and  the socioeconomic development in the region.
As an analyst you will have the opportunity to conduct research on a broad set of issues that are consistent with the general aims of the programme. Your main objective will be to write researched policy reports (UI papers, see for instance: Peace in Yemen and Anatomy of the Iranian Economy).
You will work closely with the rest of the MENA-team and are expected to participate in the programme’s, as well as the Institute’s, various activities. This may include conducting seminars and workshops as well as presenting your work to the public in various forms.
The position is a one-year project employment and full time, starting 1/3/2021.
What we are looking for
The programme is looking for an analyst focusing on policy research with previous experience of academic research. You have a master’s degree, strong analytical skills and a demonstrated interest in issues regarding the MENA region. The ability to work both independently and with a team is a prerequisite, as are communicative skills.
We are primarily seeking applicants with experience from working on any of the following themes:
- Public health related issues
- Race relations, racism and discrimination
- Social-economic inequalities
- The relationship between countries in the MENA region and India
However, all applications relevant to research on the MENA region will be considered.
Fluency in English and any one MENA language is required, Swedish is an advantage but not a prerequisite.
