The South China Sea: still no war on the horizon

The South China Sea: still no war on the horizon

12 August 2015

Even though transformations have been weakened in recent years in the South China Sea, a major armed conflict is still highly unlikely, argues UI research associate Mikael Weissmann in his article in the special issue on "China's Maritime Embroilments" in Asian Survey.

The special issue, co-edited by Mikael Weissmann, originates from the conference "Collaboration at Sea," (June, 2012) which was funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond.

The introduction, "China's Maritime Embroilments," was written by Mikael Weissmann together with Prof. Lowell Dittmer (University of California, Berkeley).

Weissman's own article in the issue: "The South China Sea: Still No War on the Horizon."

Weissmann's article was written before the extent of China's land-reclamation in the South China Sea became clear.
