Per Jönsson is Associate Fellow and Middle East analyst at UI. He re-joined UI in 2011 after 30 years as a foreign correspondent for one of the largest Swedish newspapers Dagens Nyheter.
Between 1975 and 1981 he was Editor of UI's publication Internationella studier and Världspolitikens dagsfrågor and Director of UI's programme activities. He has also worked as correspondent to the U.S. at Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå (TT) and the daily newspaper Göteborgs Handels- och Sjöfartstidning.
Since the end of the Cold War his main interest has been the Middle East in general and in particular the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Iran. Furthermore, Per Jönsson has studied various forms of political terrorism since the 1970s.
