Together with the Carnegie Center in Moscow (CMC, http://www.carnegie.ru/en/), the Swedish Institute of International Affairs ran a project between 2007 and 2009. The project, which was commissioned by the Swedish MFA in order to prepare for the Swedish EU presidency in the autumn of 2009, was policy oriented and concentrated on finding areas of mutually beneficial cooperation for the EU and Russia. Among topics that were explored wore regional cooperation (especially in the Baltic Sea region) and economic relations.
The project organised two workshops to explore the topics mentioned above – one in Saint Petersburg and one in Moscow – and terminated in a major conference in Stockholm. The conclusions from the workshops and conferences resulted in a policy paper with recommendations to the MFA.
