China - Challenges and Myths
As the world has been busy discussing the global influence and perhaps eventual domination of China, the political circumstances and challenges in the country have been given scant attention until the recent fall of Chongqing strongman and politburo member Bo Xilai. Now we are witnessing a China that faces major uncertainities on the domestic political arena. This seminar will examine what the domestic challenges are and what implications they have for the future.
Guy de Jonquières, Research Fellow at the European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE) and former journalist at The Financial Times, will give his view on the latest developments in China and its position in the world politics.
Commentator: Johan Lagerkvist, Senior Research Fellow at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs and expert on China's domestic politics. The seminar was moderated by Anna Jardfelt, Director of UI.
Per Jönsson wrote an article about this seminar for the UI-blog: Ryktena om jätten Kina våldsamt överdrivna. (In swedish)
